Natural gas volume to energy.
MMBtu = Mcf × heat contentHeat content varies with gas composition, typically 1.00–1.10 MMBtu/Mcf. The US average is about 1.037 MMBtu/Mcf — adjust the field if you know your stream's BTU.
Mcf means one thousand cubic feet of natural gas (M = the Roman numeral for 1,000). MMBtu is one million British thermal units of energy. Gas is sold by volume but priced and valued by energy, so converting between them is a daily task.
The conversion depends on the gas's heat content. Pipeline-quality dry gas in the US averages about 1.037 MMBtu per Mcf, but rich gas with more heavy hydrocarbons can exceed 1.10. If you know your stream's BTU rating, enter it for an exact result.
